Published c. 1870 in Middleton's collection, this is one of the most played Scottish reels of the last 150 years. In Cape Breton it was first recorded by The Inverness Seranders, c. 1934. The setting above comes from Jerry Holland, The 2nd Collection. Don Messer popularized ito Maritime and Oldtime players as Big John McNeils.
