The composer, the late Hugh Inkster was a fiddler from The Orkney Islands. In the late 70s the Smithsonian issued an LP containing this tune.

Introduced to the Cape Breton repertoire by fiddler Joe MacLean, his sister Theresa Morrsion recorded it on her CD, L:aments and Merry Melodies. Three years later Willie Kennedy recorded it - and it's likely he learned it from Theresa's recording.
