In August 2002 a South Polar Skua was sighted off Grand Manan Island, by tour-guide Durlan Ingersoll. This made a new bird for the province, bringing New Brunswick's total to 400 species. Durlan works for Seawach Tours as a crew member of Day's Catch, one of the boats that gives bird tours to Machias Seal Island.
